Site Introduction

When Portugese mariners first sighted Taiwan they called it Isla Formosa - the beautiful island.  From the moment I set foot on this island twenty five years ago I have felt the same way about it.  Formosa Insight is a photographic tribute to the island and its wonderful people.

In the menu you will find the images grouped under certain major themes for easy viewing of the archives.  Landscape and Wildlife are self explanatory.  The People theme includes not only portraits but also images relating to peoples lives and community.  Global is a collection of images from my travels.  Poetic deals with images that I feel have a more philosophical flavour expressing  ideas and emotions.  Some images appear in more than one category, in particular I have allowed Global images to ‘leak’ into the Poetic theme and People images from Taiwan to leak into Global People.  Each major Theme has an introductory page and various subthemes.

Now that we have passed the 100 post mark and with the ‘actual reality’ of my life ramping up in an exciting way I will, as predicted, be reducing posting to between 10 and 15 images a month.  Fittingly, though it didn’t click until afterwards, post number 101 was titled ‘Change Of Pace’.

Recently I was honoured to be ‘freshly pressed’ by wordpress who host this blog.  As a result I have received quite a large number of site visits.  Welcome!  For the time being I will try to reply to as many comments as my time allows, however please be aware that I won’t knowingly accept comments from sites overtly advertising products or, as I very much wish to keep this site family friendly, those which seem to be overtly sexual in their content.

  1. Beautiful… some times some countries tend not to come to mind and I appreciate that you have brought Taiwan (if not Isla Formosa) freshly to my memory.

Very beautiful pictures as well and thank you for sharing.

  2. I can’t believe how beautiful these pictures are! Oh, my, are they gorgeous. My parents emigrated from Taiwan and my mother has taken me back a couple of times to see her homeland. I love going there, it is absolutely a beautiful place but all the pictures I have taken never capture the beauty the way yours has. Thank you so much for sharing, I will be following you so I can enjoy the amazing pictures that make me long to go back.

    • So glad that you can enjoy the photographs. It is indeed a beautiful place with friendly and welcoming people. I hope you will have more opportunities to visit.
